A Little bit of History

St Kilda Bowls Club Fitzroy Street St Kilda

This image was taken on 11 August 1927 of the St Kilda Bowls Club. The club was established in 1865 with the clubrooms pictured being the oldest continuously operating Bowls clubrooms in Australia. The clubrooms remain in near original condition to this day. The St Kilda Bowls Club holds significant heritage value within not only the wider St Kilda community, but the Victorian Community as a whole and as such, the entire site is protected by strict heritage laws as well as being certified by the National Trust.

The club has served as a backdrop to countless film and television productions with the film 'Crackerjack' taking inspiration from the clubs' 1990's battle against the government to remain open. Featured at the rear is St Kilda Park Primary School and to the left is the former St Kilda Railway Station.
