Dear Members,

Last week was a blast with romantics treating their partners to a three course meal on Valentine's Day at the club with Chef coming up with some amazing creations.

On Friday, we celebrated Chinese New Year and got a taste of Asia with a special Dumplings menu - Those soup dumplings were a hit and it was great to see all Members and families getting involved in some cultural traditions.

I encourage all Members and Guests to continue with their positive attitude and supporting the best club on the river.

Look out for big events in March such as St Patrick's Day and another exciting event involving sports at the club happening alongside Bike Week later on in the month.

The Angling Section are hosting a 'How To Use Your Echo Sounder Seminar' tomorrow night and I recommend all Members and Guests to get along and get involved. Well done to Angling Captain James and his crew for this great initiative... This is also a point event!

See you at the club!

Regards,
Damien Gaspar

Feb Angling Report
Our last 'Field Day' on Sunday 4th February was to make up for our December 'Field Day', and the 'Field Day' on the 10th December was to make up for our August 'Field Day' that was also cancelled. We are now on track with one 'Field Day' for each month to date with five 'Field Days' to the end of the Angling season in June.

The Demersal and Snapper Bans are all lifted and some great fish was brought in with new Season Records and Club Records.
Ken Bailey on Silver Tongue brought in a Whopper 'Season & Club Record' Pink Snapper weighing 9.2kg and Jake Straker delivered yet another Season Record, with a 1.05kg Skippy, Well Done Jake and Ken from 'Team Bailey' !!
There are five comps to the end of the Season and still hope for some of us !! Gil Sander on Predator has snatched the lead again for the month and is in Second place for the 'Season Top Gun', but has a bit of work to catch Travis Sims who is in the lead. Top Boats for the Month were 'Silver Tongue', 'Joint Venture' and 'Predator'. Top Boats for the Season are 'Silver Tongue', 'Pink Slapper' & 'Predator' in that order. 'Silver Tongue' is going to be a force to be reckoned with, with a rather healthy lead in Top Boat position...but watch out for 'Joint Venture' the 'Smiling Assassin' !!

Great to see our Juniors battling it out for a spot, Jake Straker with Club Records, Tyler Sandy with four Species and Harry Bridgeman, Kye and James Harwood right on their heels.....Well Done Juniors and keep up the effort lads. Oh Yes, and not forgetting our Lovely Lady Anglers.....Keep trying Diana....we are proud of ya !! Good to see a good turn out of Kayakers each month and congratulations to Andrew Jenkins who won the prize for that division, Well Done Andrew !!

A Big Thank You to all our sponsors - Anglers Fishing World, Riverton-Rossmoyne Veterinary Hospital, Compleat Angler, MM Electrical, Travis Sims Tackle and Phil Scott Sinkers !! All who support the Angling Section with 'Gift Vouchers' and 'Prizes' for our Monthly Field Days. A Big Thank You to all the SYC Members and Guests who support our weekly Raffles at the Club on Friday Nights, your support helps keep the Angling Section interesting and also supports other needy activities within the Club, so dig deep as we need your support, help us help others !!

All SYC Angling Members - The 'Dave Birchenough' and the 'School Boat' are used on all for our 'Angling Field Days', so if you are a Angling Section Member without a boat and looking for a spot on a boat, please contact Travis SIMS by email - travissims@bigpond.com. If all spots on the two boats are taken, we will try and find you a spot on another boat. The normal contribution towards Maintenance, Fuel & Bait is ~$50 for the day out on one of the Club Boats, juniors are 'free' accompanied by an adult. Bear in mind you could quite easily win your contribution back in prizes....so come along and have some fun, and as a SYC member you are entitled to join the Angling Section 'free of charge' as part of your SYC Club membership. You and your family are most welcome to come along and try your skills at fishing. Intra Club Fishing Competition - This annual Club event is going to be held on Sunday 8th April 2018 !!

So please lock this day away in your diaries as it is expected to be our biggest event yet. If you want to get involved as a Sponsor please contact any Angling Member or myself. All Sponsors from $200 upwards will benefit from free advertising at the Club, on our banners and flyers and on the day itself. Come along and be part of this great day, it is a 'Club Point' event too !! You can also view the Angling Section on our Facebook page
