Thank you for wanting to help our native waterbirds. The Victorian recreational duck shooting opening weekend will be Saturday March 18 and Sunday March 19.

We will arrive at the caravan park in the afternoon/evening of Friday March 17.

Registrations close on Tuesday March 14.

To attend duck rescue you must read the 2017 Duck Rescue Information and you must also sign the Indemnity Form when registering your arrival at the caravan park on Friday (click on link above).

CADS also needs rescuers to patrol the wetlands each weekend of the shooting season (which closes on June 12).  If you can assist on one or more weekends, tick below and respond to our weekly email calls for rescuers when you are available.

A couple of days before opening, every rescuer will be allocated to a team with at least one leader.  If possible we'll put you in the same team as your friends (no promises, but we'll do our best).

Information meetings

All new rescuers must attend one of the information meetings which will provide important information and a briefing on current conditions.  We strongly recommend that previous rescuers also attend an information session.  These meetings will be held at:

South Melbourne Town Hall
210 Bank Street, South Melbourne
Wednesday March 8 at 7.15pm
Satuday March 11 at 2.15pm
Free street parking is available or take Tram 12 to stop 128 on Clarendon Street, or Tram 1 to stop 24 on Park Street, or Tram 96 to stop 127 on the light-rail.

The location of the wetlands we attend depends on a number of factors and will not be determined until closer to opening.

There are four travel options:

CADS minivans will depart from the Abbotsford Convent at 1 St Helier's Street, Abbotsford, at approximately 1pm, 3pm and 7pm on Friday March 17 for travel to the caravan park and motels.  Booking is essential.  $25 covers a return trip (pay driver on the day).

There is no weekend car parking available at the Abbotsford Convent.

The minivans will return on Sunday afternoon March 19 arriving back in Melborne around 6 - 8pm.  However, if required, a minivan may return on Saturday afternoon.  More details will be proided to minivan passengers later.

2. - DRIVE YOUR OWN CAR - and possibly provide a lift for another rescuer.

3. - SHARE TRAVEL WITH ANOTHER RESCUER in a private car (subject to availability).

4. - TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT - train or bus - depending on the destination.

On-site cabins or caravans are available for Friday and Saturday nights only (not for single nights).

Although our destination won't be decided until March, you can still book a bed in a shared on-site caravan or cabin.  The cost will be $40 for the two nights.

Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Cabins contain a double bed and single bunks.  Mattresses are provided but you must bring your own pillow and bedding.

CADS provides free morning tea and snacks at the wetlands on Saturday morning.

You must book for the 6.30pm (approx.) Saturday night meal.
